Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus will deploy a blockchain-based medical data management platform developed by blockchain startup VeChain and digital healthcare solution firm I-Dante. Dubbed “The E-NewHealthLife,” the platform will be used in the emergency department of the Cyprus hospital, allowing patients to check waiting lists and manage their medical records via their devices. Cyprus healthcare sector reportedly operating with numerous inefficiencies resulting from outdated technological infrastructure, including “the administrative and technical difficulties of pooling data from different digital records systems,” a “lack of collaboration between local departments and agencies,” and “balanc[ing] health imperatives and privacy concerns.” The company emphasizes the effectiveness of blockchain-based solutions to eliminate problems with the modernization of the technological systems underpinning healthcare organizations, and notes the possibility of increasing the patient privacy provided by DLT.
