Walmart to Patent Blockchain Drone Delivery Service

Walmart, an American multinational retail corporation that operates a chain of hypermarkets, has submitted patent applications to the USA Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for blockchain based drone delivery service. The patent application is available on the USPTO website. The document describes a system that allows “autonomous electronic devices” to communicate with each other wirelessly as well as pass transported items to each other after an identification process.

With the new system, Walmart’s drones can exchange authentication signals using “blockchain keys”. If the identification is successful, the first drone will give the cargo to the second one. Drones would rely on a database of delivery information stored on whichever blockchain the company is operating.According to the patent filing, to identify each other, drones use a variety means of signal sending, including QR codes, RFID codes, or ultrasound. All information will be available in the blockchain and users can watch the movement of their package in real time.

Walmart has been actively working on various blockchain solutions for its business and recently applied for patents related to the management of smart appliances and delivery control, among others.Join to our Telegram channel to be always up-to-date with the latest news of the cryptocurrency space.
